The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” Achieves Historic 4 Billion Spotify Streams Milestone

In a remarkable achievement, The Weeknd’s hit single “Blinding Lights” has secured its place in Spotify history as the first song to surpass 4 billion streams on the platform. Originally released in November 2019 as part of The Weeknd’s fourth album, After Hours, the track had already claimed the title of the most-played song in Spotify’s history.

To commemorate this milestone, Spotify crafted a special video featuring an Abel Tesfaye trophy, acknowledging the artist’s exceptional achievement. In response, The Weeknd expressed gratitude, stating, “I’ll never stop being humbled by anything I create making its way to millions of people, let alone billions! I’m so thankful this song makes people feel a way that they keep going back to listen.”

Abel Tesfaye, also known as The Weeknd, has consistently shattered records on the platform. In February of the previous year, he became the first artist in Spotify history to surpass 100 million monthly listeners, maintaining his position as the platform’s most-listened-to artist with 113 million monthly listeners.

Variety reports that “Blinding Lights” has generated between $15.5 million to $17.5 million in royalties, with an additional estimated $4.5 million in publishing revenue. The Weeknd, not only a musical sensation but also an advocate for philanthropy, recently hinted at the upcoming final album in the After Hours/Dawn FM trilogy. Additionally, he joined forces with the Los Angeles nonprofit organization School on Wheels to support over 1,000 students experiencing homelessness from kindergarten through twelfth grade.
