Cage the Elephant are heading into a major new chapter with their latest single “Dying in Reverse,” a song that is arriving just weeks before the band takes the stage for the 2026 NFL Munich Game halftime show. The Kentucky rock group will headline the halftime performance during the New England Patriots vs. Detroit Lions matchup on Nov. 15 at FC Bayern Munich Arena in Germany.

“Dying in Reverse” was released on Sept. 10 and introduces a psychedelic-tinged sound built around guitars, a hypnotic chorus and a meditative rhythm. Frontman Matt Shultz described the song as being about a fresh start and rebirth, with themes centered on moving beyond the ego, renewing the mind and reconnecting with a deeper sense of purpose.

The timing of the release gives Cage the Elephant a new song to potentially bring into their Munich performance as they prepare for one of the biggest stages of their current era. The band has not announced a specific halftime setlist, but the new single is part of the material shaping their next phase, alongside July’s “Beaches in Tennessee.”

The NFL selected Cage the Elephant in part because of the band’s reputation as a high-energy live act and Germany’s longstanding connection with rock music. NFL executive Tim Tubito said Munich has produced some of the league’s most memorable international-game atmospheres and described Cage the Elephant as a band capable of matching the energy of the crowd.

For Cage the Elephant, Germany is also familiar territory. The group has performed in the country several times, and Shultz said German audiences have consistently given the band strong responses. He also acknowledged that an NFL halftime show is different from a regular concert because the group will have one performance in front of a stadium audience and a global television audience.

The Munich appearance follows a period of renewed activity for the band. Cage the Elephant joined Oasis for the North American leg of the Oasis Live ’25 tour and returned to new music in 2026 after a period without new releases. “Beaches in Tennessee” marked their first release through Big Loud Rock, while “Dying in Reverse” continues the development of the material expected to feature in their next full-length project.

The new single also has a connection beyond the NFL stage, as “Dying in Reverse” is set to appear on the EA Sports FC 27 soundtrack when the game launches globally on Sept. 25. The song therefore arrives with both a major sports-performance opportunity and a prominent gaming placement.

Cage the Elephant’s Munich halftime appearance will be part of a record seven halftime shows presented by American Express across the NFL’s 2026 International Games. The band joins performers including the Jonas Brothers in Melbourne, Pedro Sampaio and Ricky Martin in Rio, Ayra Starr in London and The Warning in Mexico City.

Following the Munich performance, Cage the Elephant are scheduled to return to Europe for a headline tour in February and March 2027, with dates across Germany, Poland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, France and the United Kingdom. The European run is scheduled to begin in Berlin on Feb. 8 and conclude in London on March 1.
