Shaboozey brought his blend of country and hip-hop to the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, Sept. 27, performing “Cowgirl” before joining forces with Gunna for their first televised performance of “High Noon.” The performance took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, where Snoop Dogg hosted the ceremony.

Shaboozey opened the set inside a Western-style saloon as performers played cards, danced and staged a bar fight around him during “Cowgirl.” The singer then moved through the saloon as a wanted poster bearing his name appeared on the bar, setting up the transition into “High Noon.”

Gunna then emerged in a black carriage to join Shaboozey for “High Noon,” their collaboration from Shaboozey’s fourth studio album, The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales. The performance ended with the saloon set appearing to catch fire, completing the Western-themed staging.

“High Noon” was performed on television by the pair for the first time at the ceremony. The song was released as part of The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales, which arrived in late July and combines country, hip-hop, folk and Americana influences within its Western-inspired concept.

“Cowgirl,” meanwhile, was nominated for two awards at the 2026 VMAs: Best Country and Best Cinematography. The track, produced by Sean Cook and Nevin Sastry, reached No. 11 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart and was accompanied by a Western-themed video co-directed by Shaboozey and Logan Meis.

The music video for “Cowgirl” stars Ciara Miller of Summer House, who also introduced Shaboozey before his VMAs performance. The song had accumulated more than 100 million official streams before the ceremony, according to CBS and MTV’s announcement of the performance lineup.

The VMAs appearance marked Shaboozey’s performance debut at the ceremony. He entered the 2026 event with five career VMA nominations, including his two nominations for “Cowgirl” this year, while Gunna had received two career VMA nominations.

Following the VMAs, Shaboozey is continuing his Outlaws Never Die Tour, which is scheduled to run through Oct. 27. The remaining itinerary includes stops in Boston, Washington, D.C., New York City, Philadelphia, Chicago and San Francisco before the tour concludes in Los Angeles.

The 2026 VMAs also featured performances from Madonna, LISA, RAYE, Sienna Spiro, GENER8ION and Yung Lean, alongside tributes to George Michael and Dolly Parton. Shaboozey’s set added another country-meets-hip-hop performance to the ceremony’s lineup.
