Young Thad F Explores the Attraction Beyond Appearances on “The Way They Look”
Young Thad F turns his attention to attraction, first impressions and what makes a connection last on “The Way They Look.” The track is number seven on his Bus Ride Back LP. It takes a playful look at the qualities that draw people towards one another, while questioning whether physical attraction is enough to build something meaningful.
A self-described lifelong street poet, Young Thad F has turned his experiences into a form of storytelling hip-hop. Here, he starts with a familiar question: what attracts one person to another? While some believe they fall in love with someone’s mind, he suggests that physical appearance often creates the initial spark. A person’s hair, eyes and body can catch attention. However, keeping someone’s interest requires much more than a pretty face or an attractive figure.
Through his lyrics, Young Thad F makes the case for substance. Personality, a strong work ethic and everyday practical skills all matter. He even adds a humorous reminder that knowing how to use a microwave should count for something. That light-hearted approach gives the track its personality, allowing him to explore a familiar subject without taking himself too seriously.
The production also plays an important role in bringing the story to life. Young Thad F describes the instrumental as a personal favourite, praising the beatmaker for creating a backdrop that suits the track’s storytelling. Its appeal, he suggests, comes from how well the music supports the rhyme and gives the subject room to unfold.
Once again, the mix comes courtesy of M. Keys at Creation Station Studios in New York City. Young Thad F also acknowledges his work as an engineer and producer, highlighting the role he has played in shaping the sound of the project.
As the seventh stop on Bus Ride Back, “The Way They Look” continues Young Thad F’s journey through storytelling hip-hop.
