South Carolina-born, Birmingham-based artist GMF Lonnie is gaining attention with his single “Can’t Breathe.” The track is helping introduce his sound to a growing audience. Clips shared across social media have attracted approximately 70,000 views on TikTok and 120,000 on Instagram. Together, they have generated more than 190,000 views across both platforms.

Driven by hard-hitting production, direct street-rap lyrics and a melodic, chant-like hook, “Can’t Breathe” brings together different elements of Lonnie’s musical identity. The record balances the intensity of Southern hip-hop with a catchy vocal approach. As a result, it offers listeners an introduction to the sound he is continuing to develop.

However, “Can’t Breathe” is only part of the bigger picture. Lonnie is preparing to introduce YN RNB (Young Nigga RNB), an upcoming project built around a genre concept of his own. The idea brings together the emotional melodies of R&B with the raw storytelling, attitude and production of street rap and trap.

Through YN RNB, Lonnie wants to create music that makes room for vulnerability and intensity. Rather than keeping those qualities separate, the concept explores how they can exist within the same record. It also gives him a direction through which to shape a more distinct artistic identity.

Originally from Rembert, South Carolina, and now based in Birmingham, Alabama, Lonnie is building his career across two important parts of his journey. His Southern roots inform his approach, while his developing sound draws on hip-hop, melodic trap and R&B. Now, with “Can’t Breathe” gaining traction online, he is turning that attention into a wider introduction to his music.

With YN RNB on the way, GMF Lonnie is looking beyond the momentum of a single release. He is working towards a sound that reflects both the emotional side of R&B and the direct energy of street rap. “Can’t Breathe” offers an early look at that direction as he prepares for his next chapter.
