Summer Walker Celebrates Five Years of ‘Last Day of Summer’ with ‘Girls Need Love (Girls Mix)’ EP

Five years ago, Summer Walker introduced her captivating sound to the world with the critically acclaimed debut mixtape, ‘Last Day of Summer.’ To celebrate this significant milestone, she dropped the ‘Girls Need Love (Girls Mix)’ EP on Friday, October 20, released via LVRN and Interscope Records.

This EP features five distinctive versions of Walker’s breakthrough hit single, “Girls Need Love,” a track that has achieved an impressive five-times platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The addition of Drake’s remix sent the song soaring into the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 and reached the 16th spot on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

For this special release, Walker has collaborated with talented artists, including Victoria Monét, Tyla, and Tink, who contribute guest verses to three of the tracks. They are acknowledged on the EP’s cover artwork, a nostalgic March 4, 2019 tweet from Walker asking followers to “text your man ‘I just need some d–k with no complications’ and tweet me his reply lol.” Alongside these renditions, the EP also includes an acoustic version of the song, which was unveiled earlier this week, as well as the original “Girls Need Love.”

In addition to this exciting EP, Walker is also offering an exclusive cobalt blue vinyl edition of ‘Last Day of Summer’ and limited-edition merchandise, all available on her website. ‘Last Day of Summer,’ a mixtape that recently achieved platinum status from the RIAA, initially dropped on October 19, 2018. It climbed to No. 25 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and reached No. 44 on the Billboard 200.

Following her mixtape anniversary celebrations, the ‘Girls Need Love (Girls Mix)’ EP comes after the release of her ‘Clear 2: Soft Life’ EP, which boasts nine tracks, including an “audio hug” from J. Cole and the collaboration “New Type” with Childish Gambino. ‘Clear 2: Soft Life’ made waves, securing the No. 7 position on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and landing at No. 26 on the Billboard 200. Summer Walker continues to captivate listeners with her soulful and innovative music, proving herself as a leading artist in contemporary R&B.
