Skepta Unveils Long-Awaited Track and Visuals for “Gas Me Up (Diligent)”
After months of anticipation, Skepta has finally dropped “Gas Me Up (Diligent),” the lead track from his upcoming album, Knife & Fork. The release comes a week after the debut of “Jangrova” featuring ODUMODUBLVCK and Idris Elba, part of the Tribal Mark soundtrack. Produced by Cardo, the new single carries a breezy vibe with subtle melodic elements, hinting at potential surprises in the full Knife & Fork album.
Earlier this month, the track’s artwork faced controversy and was swiftly removed. The image, depicting a group with shaved heads and a “gas me up” tattoo, drew criticism for its perceived resemblance to Holocaust victims. Skepta promptly issued a statement and replaced the artwork with a text graphic reading “Image Not Found,” expressing regret and a commitment to greater sensitivity.

Skepta’s statement read, “I’ve been waiting to drop Gas Me Up (Diligent) since teasing it April last year, worked hard getting the artwork right for my album rollout… and it has been taken offensively by many. I can promise you that was definitely not our plan, so I have removed it and I vow to be more mindful going forward.”
In a subsequent Tweet, he added, “I can honestly see how my single artwork without context can be deemed offensive, especially in a time like this, but again that was not my intention. But after some thought, I don’t feel like I could continue being the artist you all know and love if my art is policed. I have to quit if I can’t express my art as I see it.”
