Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” has made Billboard Hot 100 history after spending its 23rd total week at No. 1. The milestone makes the country hit the longest-running No. 1 song in the chart’s history, surpassing Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which previously held the record with 22 weeks at the top.

Langley reacted to the milestone on Instagram shortly after the new chart was announced Tuesday, Sept. 22. She reshared a graphic showing previous Hot 100 record holders and added teary-eyed and mind-blown emojis alongside the words, “23 weeks” and “Absolutely insane.”

“Choosin’ Texas” first entered the Billboard Hot 100 in November 2025 at No. 39 before eventually reaching No. 1 in February 2026. Although the song was briefly displaced from the top spot, it returned to No. 1 on the July 4-dated chart and has remained there since, bringing its cumulative total to 23 weeks.

The song’s latest achievement moves it past Carey’s holiday classic and previous Hot 100 leaders including Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” and Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Old Town Road,” both of which spent 19 weeks at No. 1. “Choosin’ Texas” had already become the longest-running non-holiday No. 1 before reaching the latest record.

The track was released in October 2025 as the lead single from Langley’s second album, “Dandelion.” She co-wrote the song with Miranda Lambert, Luke Dick and Joybeth Taylor. Langley previously told Billboard that the song came together during a writers’ retreat with Lambert, with the pair developing the idea from a story Lambert shared about a kangaroo and Texas license plates.

“Dandelion” has also performed strongly on the charts, spending three weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and 18 weeks at No. 1 on Top Country Albums as of the latest reports. “Choosin’ Texas” has additionally recorded extended runs atop Billboard’s Streaming Songs, Digital Song Sales and Hot Country Songs charts.

The song’s streaming numbers have continued to contribute to its reach beyond country audiences. Luminate reported more than 911 million U.S. on-demand streams and 1.26 billion global streams through mid-August 2026. Spotify has also placed the track on both country-focused and broader playlists, including “Today’s Top Hits.”

Langley previously described the song’s success to Billboard as surreal, saying fans had taken hold of the track and changed the course of her career. With its 23rd week at No. 1 now official, “Choosin’ Texas” has become the longest-running chart-topper in the history of the Billboard Hot 100.
