50 Cent Mocks Floyd Mayweather Over $340M Showtime Lawsuit: ‘Don’t Cry Now, Champ’
Rapper 50 Cent publicly mocked former boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. amid news of Mayweather’s $340 million lawsuit against Showtime Networks and its former sports president Stephen Espinoza, using social media to taunt the undefeated fighter over the legal battle. In an Instagram post on February 4, 50 Cent wrote “Oh no don’t cry now champ…” and teased that Mayweather should have let him read the contracts, doubling down on past jabs about Mayweather’s business decisions and reading comprehension.

The lawsuit, filed in California state court, alleges that Showtime and Espinoza played a role in an elaborate scheme that diverted tens of millions of Mayweather’s earnings — including profits from high-profile fights such as those with Manny Pacquiao and Conor McGregor — into accounts controlled by Mayweather’s former advisor Al Haymon, leaving the boxer short of at least $340 million. Mayweather is pursuing the full amount plus punitive damages.
The public spat highlights the long-running feud between 50 Cent and Mayweather, who were once close friends and collaborators before falling out in the early 2010s over financial disagreements and management issues. 50 Cent’s comments also referenced potential boxing rematches — suggesting Mayweather step back in the ring, including against Mike Tyson or Terence “Bud” Crawford, as a way to recoup financial losses.
Mayweather’s attorneys have framed the suit as an effort to recover earnings they say were wrongly withheld through alleged fraud and fiduciary breaches, while Showtime has rejected the claims and promised to respond in court.
