Duran Duran Pays Tribute to Renee Good After Fatal ICE Shooting in Minnesota

British rock band Duran Duran honored 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good during a concert Friday night in Sacramento, California, following her fatal shooting earlier this week by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer in Minneapolis. During the show at the Thunder Valley Casino Resort on January 9, frontman Simon Le Bon dedicated the band’s 1993 song “Ordinary World” to Good, describing a wish for peace and freedom for all “ordinary people” while performing the track, a moment captured in fan-recorded video shared on social media.

Good was killed on January 7 during an ICE enforcement operation in Minneapolis, where federal agents have been carrying out a high-profile crackdown. The Department of Homeland Security asserts the ICE agent who fired acted in self-defense after Good’s vehicle moved toward officers, but community leaders and local officials dispute that account, and video footage from the scene has fueled intensified scrutiny and protest.

The tribute by Duran Duran took place amid nationwide reaction to the shooting, which has sparked protests in Minneapolis and other cities, vigils and public demonstrations. In Minneapolis, Mayor Jacob Frey has called for greater accountability and for ICE to leave the city, while Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and other leaders have continued to condemn the violence.

The dedication of “Ordinary World” resonates with the band’s history of marking moments of collective sorrow and remembrance. The incident and subsequent public responses have also drawn other tributes and memorials, including sports tributes and grassroots support, as communities continue to process the shock and grief over Good’s death amid ongoing debates over immigration enforcement practices.
