Deozi and Napalm Jaquan Make a Promise of Healing on “I Made A Vow”
Brooklyn artist Deozi joins lyricist Napalm Jaquan on “I Made A Vow,” a hip-hop track about social change, spiritual identity and personal healing. The song appears on Deozi’s album, The Default Album, released in August 2026.
Recorded at Brewery Recording Studio in Brooklyn, the track was produced by Deozi and engineered by Ryan Kelly. Together, the two artists bring a socially conscious approach to hip-hop. They draw on the realities of New York City while addressing issues that affect communities beyond it.
“I Made A Vow” reflects on recent political movements at both federal and local levels. However, the artists look beyond political debate. They question the repeated promises of reform that often fail to bring real change. Through their lyrics, they express frustration with commitments that are made but rarely fulfilled.
Napalm Jaquan adds a personal and spiritual perspective to the record. He shares parts of his history and explores his understanding of God. He also challenges existing naming conventions within the African American community. As a result, his contribution brings questions of faith, identity and history into the song’s wider message.
At its heart, “I Made A Vow” is about making a commitment to healing. Both artists acknowledge the difficulties of life in an urban community. Yet, rather than allowing those challenges to define them, they focus on what they can do differently. Their vow begins with personal growth and extends to the people around them.
Deozi has spent several years developing his artistry and exploring different musical genres. With The Default Album, he continues to build a sound shaped by creative exploration and social awareness. Meanwhile, his collaboration with Napalm Jaquan gives “I Made A Vow” a clear purpose: to turn frustration into a commitment to personal and collective healing.
