Taylor Swift’s ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ Returns to No. 1 After ‘Encore’ Reissue

Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl has returned to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 following the release of its expanded edition, The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore. The album climbs from No. 21 to the top spot on the chart dated Oct. 10, 2026, earning its 13th nonconsecutive week at No. 1 after four previously unreleased songs were added to the project.

The album’s return follows the Sept. 25 release of The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, which expands the original 12-track project with “Patient Zero,” “Cleveland!,” “Pink Clouding” and “Babylon.” The new edition brought renewed attention to the album nearly a year after its original release on Oct. 3, 2025.

According to Luminate data reported by Billboard, The Life of a Showgirl earned 173,000 equivalent album units in the United States during the tracking week ending Oct. 1. That represented a 619% increase from the previous week, when the album registered 21,000 units. Streaming activity accounted for approximately 136,000 units, while album sales contributed 21,000 and track-equivalent album units added another 16,000.

The streaming increase was largely driven by the four newly released songs. The album generated 138.79 million on-demand official audio and video streams during the tracking period, pushing it from No. 17 to No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Streaming Albums chart. It marked the project’s eighth week atop that ranking.

“Patient Zero,” the focus track from the expanded edition, also received a major promotional push. Swift directed its official music video, which stars Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell and premiered during the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 27. Swift introduced the video during the broadcast, connecting the new music with one of the year’s major televised music events.

The four additional songs were written after the original album’s release. Swift said she traveled to Sweden to celebrate the success of The Life of a Showgirl with longtime collaborators Max Martin and Shellback. The trio returned to the studio during the trip and created the new material that became The Encore.

Originally released in October 2025, The Life of a Showgirl debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 4.002 million equivalent album units in its opening week in the United States. The release established a major commercial milestone for Swift, and its return to the summit in October 2026 extends its chart run into a second year.

All editions of The Life of a Showgirl are combined for Billboard 200 chart purposes. The expanded version is available on streaming services and as a digital download, with the four new tracks contributing to the album’s latest surge in consumption. The Oct. 10 chart is scheduled for full publication on Oct. 6, 2026.
