Mary J. Blige Talks ‘Be Happy’ Movie, Vegas Residency & Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Performance: ‘Timing Is Everything’

Mary J. Blige is speaking about a trio of major career moments as she gears up for 2026, including the premiere of her new Lifetime film Mary J. Blige Presents Be Happy, the launch of her first-ever Las Vegas residency and her thoughts on Bad Bunny’s upcoming Super Bowl halftime performance. Be Happy, inspired by her 1994 hit of the same name, debuts on Feb. 7, 2026 and stars Tisha Campbell, Mekhi Phifer and Russell Hornsby, framed around a narrative of reinvention and personal growth that echoes themes found in Blige’s music.

Blige also discussed her Las Vegas residency, Mary J. Blige: My Life, My Story, scheduled to begin May 1, 2026 at Dolby Live at Park MGM with ten shows planned through July, marking the first time she will hold a residency in the city after decades of touring and performing.

Her Lifetime collaboration with director Gabourey Sidibe for Be Happy represents the fourth film in a series inspired by Blige’s catalog, continuing a successful partnership that blends storytelling with the emotional core of her music.

Blige’s comments touched on the timing of these projects, coming just before the Super Bowl LX weekend and Bad Bunny’s headline performance, where she said she believes he will deliver a strong show and that he “got it,” reflecting confidence in his live performance ability ahead of the Feb. 8 halftime show.

The Be Happy movie premieres Valentine’s Day weekend, shortly before Blige’s Vegas residency kickoff, and her remarks link the significance of timing to the unfolding sequence of her film, music and live performance milestones.
