Tate McRae Reflects on First Performance with The Kid Laroi

Tate McRae recently shared a behind-the-scenes look at her first time singing with The Kid Laroi, reminiscing about the moment on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The pair first performed together at McRae’s Madison Square Garden show last year, an experience she admitted was nerve-wracking. Rehearsals for the performance felt awkward, with both artists hesitating on who would start singing first.
McRae also opened up about her experience in the studio with The Kid Laroi, laughing about how she initially asked him not to listen while recording. Beyond their collaboration, she reflected on a challenging moment in her career—her album leaking weeks ahead of its scheduled release. She recounted discovering the leak while sitting in the bathtub and receiving a DM from a fan with a link to the project.
“I called my mom and my therapist,” she revealed, expressing the frustration of losing control over her artistic vision. However, rather than dwelling on the setback, McRae turned it into an opportunity by adding more songs to the album.
The interview took an unexpected turn when Fallon brought up Sydney Sweeney’s surprise cameo on So Close To What track “Miss Possessive.” McRae shared how a chance encounter at a Pilates class with Glen Powell led to the collaboration. Powell revealed that Sweeney had sent him a voice memo expressing her admiration for McRae, which ultimately resulted in the Euphoria star joining the track.
With a mix of exciting collaborations and unexpected challenges, McRae continues to embrace every twist in her musical journey.
