RAYE brought a vintage-inspired performance to the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, Sept. 27, delivering “I Will Overcome” before transitioning into her hit “Where Is My Husband!” at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The performance marked her solo debut on the VMAs stage.

The singer opened the set in a floor-length white fur coat as she performed “I Will Overcome,” a song that draws on the legacy of the late Amy Winehouse. She then removed the coat to reveal a shimmering red dress for “Where Is My Husband!,” continuing the performance barefoot as she delivered the song with a live band and string section.

RAYE’s performance featured a six-piece string section alongside more than a dozen additional musicians, giving the set a large-scale live arrangement. Her grandmother’s voice was also incorporated into the performance through an updated recording of the spoken passage that appears on the original version of “Where Is My Husband!”

The performance also included a reference to the disco-funk classic “Funkytown,” which RAYE worked into the arrangement of “Where Is My Husband!” The song itself has become one of the defining releases from her second studio album, This Music May Contain Hope, which arrived in March 2026.

“Where Is My Husband!” reached No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned RAYE a Song of the Year nomination at this year’s VMAs. She was also nominated for Best Visual Effects for “Click Clack Symphony,” featuring Hans Zimmer.

The VMAs performance came as RAYE was also scheduled to participate in the ceremony’s George Michael tribute alongside Sombr and Teddy Swims. The tribute was announced ahead of the ceremony as a celebration of Michael’s music, arriving 40 years after his landmark Faith album.

RAYE arrived at the ceremony in a glittering silver Georges Hobeika couture gown before changing into her performance looks for the stage. Her appearance was part of a ceremony hosted by Snoop Dogg that also featured performances from Madonna, LISA, Shaboozey, Gunna, Sienna Spiro and others.

The 2026 VMAs aired live from the Peacock Theater on CBS and MTV, with streaming available through Paramount+. RAYE’s two-song set came early in the ceremony as the show moved through its lineup of performances, tributes and awards.
