Pop singer Charlie Puth has publicly criticized Elon Musk over a rocket-launch noise that shook his home in the early hours of the morning, calling out what he described as dangerously loud sonic booms produced by SpaceX.

In a social media post on December 10, 2025, Puth tagged Musk directly, writing that the latest 3 a.m. launch “felt like 150–160 dB, violently shook our whole house, and really frightened my pregnant wife.”  According to SpaceX’s publicly available schedule, the launch in question used a Falcon 9 rocket from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in Santa Barbara County, sending Starlink satellites into low-Earth orbit at about 3:40 a.m. local time.

This latest launch is reportedly the fourth mission from the California base this month — with yet another launch planned for the coming weekend. In his post, Puth emphasized that the noise levels have “gotten progressively louder since they started launching the rockets in Santa Barbara,” framing his concern as both a personal appeal to Musk and a public call for awareness.

As of now, Musk has not publicly responded to Puth’s post.

Despite the criticism, aerospace-industry observers note that noise complaints from launch-site neighbors are not new: noise and sonic booms from rocket launches have long drawn complaints from communities near launch sites, especially when launches increase in frequency.

The incident has sparked renewed debate over the balance between ambitious space missions and the impact on nearby residents.
