Written by singer Mesaque, “Cordão de Prata” (Silver Chain) explores the Brazilian concept of saudade—the profound longing for something or someone far away. The story of Mesaque and Leo Gringo’s collaboration began serendipitously when Leo Spauls (Leo Gringo) encountered Mesaque performing at a bar in the favelas of Salvador, Bahia. Immediately struck by Mesaque’s commanding presence and powerful voice, Leo recognized a kindred musical spirit. This chance meeting sparked a cross-continental musical partnership that would inspire Leo to create music in Portuguese for the first time.
In 2023, Mesaque took a life-changing journey to São Paulo to record with Leo. This marked a significant personal and professional milestone as he later traveled outside Brazil for the first time.
