Italian singer Mafalda Minnozzi brings her deep connection to Brazilian music to “A Felicidade,” her interpretation of the timeless Antonio Carlos Jobim composition. The track reflects the musical identity she developed in Rio de Janeiro, where she found her voice and formed a lasting connection with Brazilian culture.

Minnozzi’s arrangement brings together the melancholy of Bossa Nova and the rhythmic energy of Samba. It also incorporates a passage from Baden Powell’s “Consolação,” with lyrics by Vinicius de Moraes. The two pieces share a common emotional thread, exploring a sadness that can feel endless while searching for a way to move beyond it.

The arrangement gives the music plenty of room to breathe. Paul Ricci’s Afro Brazilian guitar groove adds a more visceral edge, while a thoughtful exchange between guitar and piano shapes the track’s movement. Minnozzi’s jazz influenced delivery adds further intensity, particularly as her vocals rise into expressive improvisation.

Recorded in New York, the track features an accomplished group of musicians. Art Hirahara plays piano, while Rogério Boccato handles percussion and Harvie S performs on acoustic bass. Harvie S brings decades of experience to the recording, having performed with artists including Stan Getz, Chick Corea, and Pat Metheny. Ricci, Minnozzi’s longtime artistic partner, completes the core ensemble on guitar.

With more than four decades of work across Italy, Brazil, and the United States, Mafalda Minnozzi continues to connect the musical cultures that have shaped her career. On “A Felicidade,” she brings Jobim, Baden Powell, and Vinicius de Moraes into a contemporary setting while preserving the emotional character at the heart of both compositions.
