Kehlani Serves Up an R&B History Lesson & Films ‘Out the Window’ Music Video With Elementary Students
Kehlani recently stepped into the classroom to teach elementary school students about the roots of rhythm and blues while also filming a special version of her “Out the Window” music video.
The Grammy-winning singer appeared on the Feb. 18 episode of the television series “Celebrity Substitute,” visiting P.S. 33 in New York City, where she delivered a hands-on lesson about R&B history and performance. During the session, she spoke to students about the importance of the genre and how it helps people process emotions, explaining that R&B encourages vulnerability and emotional expression.

While interacting with the class, Kehlani answered questions from students about her life as a performer and the inspiration behind her music. She also guided them through core elements of R&B, highlighting aspects such as groove and sound, soul and motion, and the distinction between vocal riffs and runs.
As part of the visit, the students joined Kehlani to film an alternate version of the music video for her 2025 single “Out the Window.” The children dressed in bright neon outfits inspired by 1990s R&B visuals and performed alongside the artist, bringing energetic choreography and enthusiasm to the shoot.
The song, released in November 2025, marked another successful entry in Kehlani’s catalog, reaching the Billboard Hot 100 and landing in the top 10 on several R&B-focused charts. The classroom appearance comes as the Oakland native continues building momentum following recent Grammy wins and prepares for the release of a new album expected later this year.
