Jack Horton Releases Orchestral Reimagining of Jim Croce’s “Operator”

Singer-songwriter and pianist Jack Horton has released “Operator,” a stunning orchestral reimagining of Jim Croce’s beloved 1972 classic, as part of his new five-song EP “Imperfections.” The track represents a bold artistic departure for Horton, who transforms the intimate folk original into a piano-driven symphony featuring full orchestration, timpani, and rich symphonic arrangements.

“As a songwriter, I never thought I’d cover someone else,” Horton admits, “but I wanted to bring something new to this song.” His version of “Operator“, which he calls “one of my favourite all-time songs”,  maintains the emotional core of Croce’s masterpiece while expanding its sonic palette dramatically through lush orchestral arrangements and Horton’s signature piano work.

“Imperfections” marks Horton’s second EP in a year, showcasing his evolution as both a storyteller and musician. The collection blends polished musicianship with deeply personal narratives, creating a cohesive work that explores themes of transformation, love, and letting go.

The EP opens with “Set Me Free,” a powerful song born from personal transformation. “I’m grateful for my divorce,” Horton reflects. “Without it, I’d never have written ‘Set Me Free,’ which is about loving someone enough to let them go.” This raw honesty sets the tone for an EP that doesn’t shy away from difficult emotions.

“Imperfections” follows Horton’s unique project “The Tokyo Sessions,” a four-song EP of Japanese music he wrote while living in Tokyo. As a bilingual artist, Horton brings a global perspective to his American songcraft, and “The Tokyo Sessions” will be promoted in Japan starting in mid-2025, showcasing his versatility and international appeal.

“Operator” and the full “Imperfections” EP are available on all major streaming platforms.
