Gregg Kofi Brown Joins Ed Sheeran for Afro-Gospel Release “The River”
International recording artist Gregg Kofi Brown returns with a powerful new single, teaming up with global hitmaker Ed Sheeran to craft an Afro-gospel anthem titled “The River.”
Brown, known for blending African musical heritage with global influences, previously worked alongside Sting on the orchestral African ballad “Lullaby to an Anxious Child.” With “The River,” he steps into spiritually charged territory once again, delivering a record centered on reflection, accountability, and renewal.
The song tells the story of a troubled soul confronting fear, regret, and past missteps. Through rich melodies and gospel-leaning arrangements, the track becomes a call toward cleansing and transformation. Its central metaphor invites listeners to gather by the river — a symbolic place of restoration, and leave behind the weight of their burdens.

The release aligns with Brown’s live concert series taking place during the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP30, scheduled for November 6–18 in Belém, Brazil. The timing carries deeper meaning: Belém sits along the Amazon River, creating a natural connection between the song’s imagery and one of the world’s most vital waterways. The project carries an undercurrent of environmental awareness, reflecting themes of preservation, responsibility, and collective healing.
During the concert run, Brown will share the stage with his protégé and collaborator Fartura Flame, as well as British-Nigerian vocalist Akin Soul. Together, they will bring the message of “The River” to an international audience gathered during the global summit.
The single pairs Sheeran’s songwriting sensibility with Brown’s commanding vocal performance. The final mix was handled by acclaimed producer Chris Kimsey, whose résumé includes work on five landmark albums by The Rolling Stones. His expertise brings added depth and polish to a track rooted in spiritual urgency and musical richness.
With “The River,” Gregg Kofi Brown delivers more than a song. He presents a moment — one shaped by faith, culture, and global consciousness, inviting listeners to reflect, reset, and reconnect.
