Columbus native Greg Owens has released Harmonic Soul: Live From Rehearsal, along with his Harmonic Soul Band. This vibrant and unfiltered project captures the group’s energy during preparations for their Juneteenth performance at Mayme Moore Park earlier this summer.

Recorded spontaneously during a live rehearsal session, the project delivers an authentic behind-the-scenes experience of the band’s creative process. It brings together Owens’ signature blend of soul, funk, and hip-hop, paired with the freedom and improvisation of musicians exploring their sound in real time. Tracks like “Everlasting Summer” and “Vacation” showcase Owens’ belief that music can serve as both an escape from reality and a source of strength.

The story behind Live From Rehearsal reflects both resilience and rebirth. After pausing Harmonic Soul in 2023 due to business challenges, Owens found inspiration again in 2024 while producing Chrissy T’s EP Metamorphosis. That experience reignited his creative spark and led him to reunite the original members of the Harmonic Soul Band, Donovan Mitchell (keys), Deivi Terreo (bass), Angel Knotts (drums), and Rizo (guitar). What began as a simple rehearsal quickly evolved into a moment of rediscovery, with the band channeling their renewed purpose through spontaneous performance.

“This release gives listeners an opportunity to hear the raw preparation that usually stays behind the scenes,” Owens explained. “It also lets people know what resilience sounds like. What could’ve been the end of Harmonic Soul instead became the beginning of something new.”

The recording captures the energy, chemistry, and authenticity that define Owens’ musical vision,  community-centered, genre-blending, and rooted in storytelling. Every note carries the spirit of artists who turned challenge into creation and found harmony in rebuilding together.
