Brandy Heading to Africa to Headline Flytime’s House of R&B Concert for Lagos’ Detty December

Brandy is set to headline Flytime’s House of R&B concert in Lagos, Nigeria, on December 20, 2026, as part of the city’s annual Detty December festivities. The Grammy-winning singer will perform at the Eko Convention Centre, opening a series of holiday events organised by Flytime Promotions that will bring local and international music acts to Lagos.

The announcement was made on October 9, with Flytime confirming Brandy as the lead performer for the House of R&B event. Known to fans as “The Vocal Bible,” the singer has built a career spanning more than three decades, earning recognition for her vocal arrangements, harmonies and influence on contemporary R&B.

Flytime founder and chief executive officer Cecil Hammond said the booking was an important moment for the concert series. He noted that Lagos had developed into an international destination for music and entertainment and described Brandy as an artist whose catalogue and influence fit the event’s focus on R&B.

Flytime chief operating officer Keke Hammond also said the company was preparing six nights of entertainment for December, with each event designed around a different experience. Brandy’s performance will open the programme, setting the stage for the other concerts scheduled across the festive period.

The House of R&B concert is part of Flytime’s wider December calendar. Coca-Cola Rhythm Unplugged is scheduled for December 21, followed by Flytime Fest Powered by Coca-Cola from December 22 to 24. Flytime Circle is listed for December 25, with all the events scheduled to take place at the Eko Convention Centre. Organisers are expected to announce additional performers for the remaining shows.

Brandy’s Lagos appearance will follow a series of concerts in South Africa. She is scheduled to perform in Cape Town on December 14 before travelling to Pretoria for shows on December 17 and 18. The dates place Nigeria at the end of a December run through southern Africa, bringing her music to audiences across the region.

The singer has also had a significant year in the United States. In 2026, she received the Black Music Icon Award from the Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective and was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She also released her memoir, Phases, which became a New York Times bestseller, while continuing to collaborate with artists including Ty Dolla $ign, Kehlani and Josh Levi.

Brandy’s catalogue includes her multi-platinum debut album, the Grammy-winning hit “The Boy Is Mine” with Monica, and songs such as “Have You Ever,” “Almost Doesn’t Count” and “Full Moon.” Her influence on R&B has extended across several generations of singers, with her layered vocal style frequently cited as a defining feature of her recordings.

Flytime has been a major organiser of live music events in Nigeria since its founding in 2004. Its December programme has featured Nigerian stars such as Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido, Tems, Rema, Asake and Olamide, alongside international performers including Megan Thee Stallion, Gunna and Boyz II Men. Brandy’s upcoming performance adds another internationally recognised R&B act to the company’s 2026 schedule as Lagos prepares for the Detty December season.
