Ferdinand Rennie Delivers Emotional Musical-Theatre Ballad “WHY DO WE TRY?”

Austrian-born British vocalist Ferdinand Rennie returns with “WHY DO WE TRY?” — a dramatic and emotionally driven standalone release connected to the American stage production The Fall of the Final Curtain.

Written by Michael Andrew Storm and Meg McAndrew, the track was produced by London-based producer Sefi Carmel, Germany-based Alan Vukelic, and Ferdinand Rennie himself through Storm Music Publishing and Fabscots Ltd.

The song exists within the world of The Fall of the Final Curtain, a musical centered around a theatre production approaching its final performance. In this particular moment of the story, the featured character reflects on the emotional weight of saying goodbye to a role and production that defined a major chapter of his life. Having earned awards and recognition for his performance within the fictional show, the character faces uncertainty about whether he will ever experience something as meaningful again.

Ferdinand Rennie approaches the material with a large-scale ballad style, leaning fully into the emotional depth of the song. His performance builds around vulnerability, reflection, and theatrical intensity, transforming the track into a powerful interpretation of loss, transition, and artistic identity.

Currently based on the west coast of Scotland, Rennie has built a career spanning more than three decades across music, television, and musical theatre. His background includes appearances on Austrian and German television, including involvement with Eurovision Song Contest national selection programming through ORF.

Throughout his stage career, he has performed leading roles in major musical productions such as Les Misérables, Jesus Christ Superstar, Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors, Elisabeth, and Tabaluga & Lilli. His reputation for commanding vocal performances has also led to appearances at international charity galas and major live events.

One of the standout moments of his career came when he was invited to perform in Monte Carlo in front of Albert II and Charlene, Princess of Monaco.

Beyond original music, Rennie has also gained international radio attention for his interpretations of songs like Run, Hallelujah, and Never Enough, the latter of which he performed during an appearance on Britain’s Got Talent in 2022.

With “WHY DO WE TRY?”, Ferdinand Rennie continues showcasing his strength as a theatrical storyteller and vocalist, delivering a performance rooted in emotion, experience, and stage-driven intensity.
