Every Album Certified Double Diamond by the RIAA: Full List

As of early 2026, only a small group of albums have reached double diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), meaning they have sold or streamed the equivalent of 20 million units in the United States — a rare achievement that reflects enduring popularity and massive commercial success.

Among the albums that have attained double diamond status are Metallica’s self-titled 1991 release commonly known as The Black Album, certified for surpassing 20 million equivalent units, marking a significant milestone in the band’s career. Green Day’s breakthrough 1994 album Dookie, which helped define 1990s punk rock on a mainstream scale, also joined this elite group after its own certification surpassing 20 million units. Shania Twain’s Come on Over, long acknowledged as the highest-certified album by a female solo artist in the U.S., and AC/DC’s Back in Black, one of the top-selling hard rock albums of all time, are among the other titles in this group.

Classic rock entries include Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, Pink Floyd’s The Wall and Led Zeppelin’s Led Zeppelin IV, each crossing the double diamond threshold over decades of consistent sales and streaming. The Beatles’ self-titled White Album and the Eagles’ Hotel California are also certified double diamond, highlighting their lasting resonance across generations. Compilation and live album entries on the list include Billy Joel’s Greatest Hits Volume I & Volume II and Garth Brooks’s Double Live, which have both been certified for more than 20 million units.

Michael Jackson’s Thriller, universally recognized as one of the best-selling albums in U.S. history, was the first album to receive double diamond certification and has since reached even higher certification tiers with over 34 million units. The Eagles are unique on the list for having multiple double diamond albums, with Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975) achieving even greater cumulative units and recently reaching a quadruple diamond certification under expanded metrics that include streaming.

In total, there are 14 albums certified double diamond, spanning genres from rock and pop to country and live performance, illustrating how milestones in music sales continue to evolve with consumption patterns and the integration of streaming into RIAA certification rules.
