Daisuke Ashihara’s ‘World Trigger’ Vol. 30 Tops Billboard Japan Book Hot 100 as Comics Sweep Top 10

Daisuke Ashihara’s World Trigger Volume 30 has debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Japan Book Hot 100, leading a chart in which manga titles occupied all 10 positions. The ranking, published on October 8, 2026, covers the tracking period from September 28 through October 4 and reflects the strong performance of newly released Japanese comics across physical and digital formats.

The latest volume of World Trigger, Ashihara’s science-fiction action manga, secured the top position after achieving No. 1 rankings in both physical retail sales and e-book sales. The title also performed strongly across the chart’s broader indicators, which combine several measures of book consumption and reader engagement.

The Billboard Japan Book Hot 100 combines data from physical bookstores, online retailers, electronic books, subscription services and social media attention. By bringing these indicators together, the chart tracks the performance of books across different formats and reflects how readers are discovering and purchasing titles in Japan.

The success of World Trigger was part of a wider surge for manga during the latest tracking week. All 10 positions in the overall book ranking were occupied by comic titles, a change from the previous week, when novels and other book categories had a stronger presence near the top.

The comic adaptation of I Am the Villainess, So I’m Taming the Final Boss? No. 2 on the chart was Futsutsuka na Akujo de wa Gozaimasu ga: Hina-miya Chūso Torikae-den Volume 11, which ranked second after strong physical and digital sales. The series is also scheduled to receive the second cour of its television anime adaptation in January 2027.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Volume 9 placed third, continuing the story of the next generation of shinobi from the Naruto universe. The volume performed particularly well in digital sales, helping it secure a place among the week’s top three books.

Other manga titles completing the top five were Kizumono no Hanayome Volume 12 at No. 4 and Ichi the Witch Volume 10 at No. 5. The Elusive Samurai Volume 27 followed at No. 6, while Blue Box Volume 27 took seventh place. Donketsu Chapter 2 Volume 18 ranked eighth, followed by Black Butler Volume 36 at No. 9 and Akane-banashi Volume 24 at No. 10.

Although Black Butler dropped from its previous chart position, it remained among the top 10, maintaining strong results in physical retail and social media-related indicators. The other nine titles in the latest top 10 were new entries, reflecting a busy release period for Japanese manga publishers at the beginning of October.

World Trigger follows the members of Border, an organisation established to defend Earth against mysterious invaders known as Neighbors. The series began serialization in 2013 and has developed an international readership through its strategic battles, science-fiction setting and ensemble cast. Ashihara’s work has also been adapted into an anime television series, expanding the franchise beyond the original manga.

The latest chart results come ahead of Billboard Japan’s first annual awards ceremony for its book charts, scheduled for November 14, 2026. Applications for free audience attendance were reported to remain open through October 18. With World Trigger leading the latest ranking and manga dominating the entire top 10, the October chart highlights the continued commercial strength of Japanese comics across print and digital publishing.
