NYC Trio Leap Year Releases “Bridges”

Genre-blending trio Leap Year has released “Bridges,” their second single since transitioning from hip-hop production to alt-rock performance. Originally known as producers for hip-hop artist Pastor Troy, the NYC-based group is reinventing their sound with what they describe as “if Nirvana was produced by the Neptunes.”
“Bridges” combines sparse shimmering guitars and hard-hitting drums layered over deep 808s, creating a sonic bridge between the trio’s hip-hop production background and their new alt-rock direction. The track addresses themes of addiction and life struggles, demonstrating their commitment to impactful subject matter alongside genre experimentation.
The single showcases Leap Year’s refusal to commit to single-genre constraints, incorporating traces of hip-hop, alternative rock, and grunge within one composition. This multi-genre approach reflects their production background while establishing their new identity as performers rather than behind-the-scenes creators.
“Bridges” serves both as artistic statement and career pivot, demonstrating how hip-hop production skills can inform rock composition. The track’s 808-driven foundation combined with traditional rock instrumentation creates what the band positions as a fresh template for genre-blending alternative music.
Drawing influence from established acts like Linkin Park, Nirvana, and Twenty One Pilots, Leap Year is positioning themselves within the tradition of genre-crossing alternative rock while bringing unique production perspectives from their hip-hop background.
“Bridges” is available now on all major streaming platforms.
