Aleksandra Picariello Confronts Emotional Turmoil on New Single “Is What It Is”

Aleksandra Picariello releases “Is What It Is,” a raw and deeply introspective track that captures the intense experience of being triggered and thrown into an emotional spiral. The song navigates the unstable rhythm of acceptance, neutrality, pain, and injustice, reflecting the inner chaos that emerges during trauma responses. At its core, it’s about surviving the storm, processing the turmoil, and finding the way back to equilibrium.

“Is What It Is” leans into Picariello’s signature dramatic indie-pop style, where bittersweet string arrangements collide with driving, bass-heavy rock grooves. The sound is theatrical and bold, evoking a world where David Bowie might sip tea with Lady Gaga while Twenty One Pilots riff in the corner of a room filled with cellos, French horns, and echoes of Hans Zimmer’s cinematic influence.
A Boston native and Berklee College of Music alum, Picariello began on cello at age nine before discovering her artistic calling as a bassist. That shift set her creative life in motion. Her path, however, was shaped by years of mental-health struggles and attempts at self-medication. A hospitalization in 2020 became her turning point, inspiring her to write again and eventually launch her solo career, beginning with her EP Legacy.
Today, Picariello continues to fuse storytelling with advocacy. Through her music she aims to champion mental-health awareness, support people battling addiction, and offer comfort to anyone who finds solace in sound. With “Is What It Is,” she brings listeners straight into the heart of emotional honesty, and reminds them that healing often begins by simply naming the truth.
