Karol G Says Drake’s Spanish Was ‘So Good’ on ‘Ahí’ Collab: ‘It Was So Much Fun, He’s Amazing’

Karol G is praising Drake for his Spanish-language performance on their collaboration “Ahí,” revealing that she encouraged the Canadian rapper to deliver his entire contribution in Spanish rather than switching to English. During a recent interview, the Colombian superstar described working with Drake as an enjoyable experience and praised his efforts to get the song’s pronunciation right.

Speaking on The New York Times’ Popcast podcast in an episode published Oct. 8, Karol G recalled that Drake initially asked whether he should include a verse in English when she presented the song to him. She told him to keep his contribution in Spanish, explaining that she liked the way he sounded singing in the language.

“I love him singing in Spanish, and he does it so good,” Karol G said during the interview. She added that Drake wanted to get the pronunciation right and encouraged her to guide him through the recording process.

The singer revealed that she worked closely with Drake in the studio, helping him refine individual lines and sounds. She specifically mentioned coaching him on the pronunciation of the Spanish word “rico,” explaining that she wanted the delivery to sound natural within the song.

“I tried to just play a little bit with his pronunciation,” she said, describing the recording session as fun and calling Drake “amazing.” Karol G’s comments highlight the collaborative process behind the track, which brings together two artists whose musical careers have largely developed in different language markets.

“Ahí” appears on Karol G’s sixth studio album, No Me Arrepiento de Sentir Tanto, released in August 2026. The song explores the possibility of a future relationship while acknowledging the need for time and space after a breakup. In an earlier interview with Rolling Stone, Karol G explained that she wanted the track to feel like a conversation between two people, with the verses responding to one another.

The collaboration followed earlier conversations between the artists about working together. Karol G said she had long admired Drake’s Spanish-language performances and had previously discussed the possibility of making music with him. When “Ahí” came together, she wanted him to sing in Spanish rather than divide the track between English and Spanish verses.

The song has also achieved chart success. “Ahí” reached No. 44 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart, while No Me Arrepiento de Sentir Tanto peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard 200. The album further expanded Karol G’s presence on the U.S. charts following her previous global successes with releases including Mañana Será Bonito.

Karol G and Drake performed “Ahí” together for the first time on Sept. 27 during her Viajando Por El Mundo Tropitour concert in Houston. Drake made a surprise appearance at the show, joining her for the collaboration before performing additional songs, including “Janice STFU” and his 2016 hit “One Dance.”

The Houston performance followed another Drake appearance connected to Karol G’s tour in Toronto earlier in the summer. The artists’ live collaboration gave fans their first opportunity to see them perform “Ahí” together after the song’s release.

Drake has previously incorporated Spanish into several recordings, including “MIA” with Bad Bunny, “Gently” with Bad Bunny, “Odio” with Romeo Santos and “MEET YOUR PADRE” with PartyNextDoor. His work on “Ahí” adds another Spanish-language collaboration to his catalog, with Karol G’s recent comments offering a closer look at how the pair developed the track.
