A$AP Rocky Is ‘Fire’ as Denzel Washington’s Son in ‘Highest 2 Lowest’ Film, Spike Lee Says

Spike Lee has confirmed that A$AP Rocky plays the lead role in his upcoming film Highest 2 Lowest, set to premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival on May 19. Lee described Rocky’s performance as “dynamite,” highlighting his significant role in the film .​

Highest 2 Lowest is a reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 classic High and Low. Set in contemporary New York City, the film stars Denzel Washington as a music mogul, a departure from the original’s shoe executive character . A$AP Rocky portrays “Yung Felon,” the son of Washington’s character, who becomes entangled in a moral dilemma involving a kidnapping and ransom situation .​

This project marks the fifth collaboration between Lee and Washington, following films like Malcolm X and Inside Man. The cast also includes Ice Spice in her acting debut, along with Jeffrey Wright and Ilfenesh Hadera .
