GENER8ION Earns First Hot 100 Hit With Yung Lean Collab ‘Storm II,’ Thanks to VMAs Bump
French electronic music producer GENER8ION has earned his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Storm II,” his collaboration with Swedish rapper Yung Lean. The track debuts at No. 93 on the chart dated October 17, 2026, following a significant increase in streaming activity after the pair performed the song at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards.
Released in April through Iconoclast Music, “Storm II” gained renewed attention after its performance at the VMAs on September 27. The appearance closed out the awards show and recreated elements of the song’s seven-minute music video, which features Yung Lean in a fictional British boarding school setting in 2034. The performance’s synchronized choreography and large group of performers helped draw attention to the track following the broadcast.

According to data from Luminate cited in Billboard’s chart report, “Storm II” generated 3.1 million eligible U.S. streams during the tracking week of October 2–8, a 30% increase from the previous week. The song had recorded 2.4 million U.S. streams in the September 25–October 1 period, marking a substantial jump from the 508,000 streams recorded in the week before the VMAs.
The track’s streaming figures had been building gradually before the awards show. It recorded 173,000 U.S. streams during the August 28–September 3 tracking week, followed by 215,000 the next week and 373,000 between September 11 and 17. Streams rose to 508,000 in the week immediately preceding the VMAs before climbing to 2.4 million following the performance.
For GENER8ION, the Hot 100 debut represents a major chart milestone. The French producer, who also records under the name Surkin, has previously worked on official remixes for artists including Usher, Charli XCX, M.I.A., Justice and Klaxons. His remix of Usher’s “Scream” was released in 2012, while his remix of Charli XCX’s “Boom Clap” followed in 2014. However, “Storm II” marks his first appearance on the Billboard Hot 100 as a credited artist.
The song had already entered Billboard’s charts earlier in the year, becoming GENER8ION’s first overall Billboard chart appearance in May. Its latest performance also lifted it to a new peak of No. 2 on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, where it reached that position in its fourth week on the ranking.
For Yung Lean, “Storm II” marks his second appearance on the Billboard Hot 100 and his first as a lead artist. The Swedish rapper previously appeared on Travis Scott’s “Parasail,” which also featured comedian Dave Chappelle and reached No. 53 in 2023. Yung Lean’s international profile grew further in 2022 when his earlier song “Ginseng Strip 2002” gained renewed viral popularity and entered the upper half of the Billboard Global 200.
The music video for “Storm II” also contributed to the song’s visibility before the VMAs. Directed around a fictional school environment, the seven-minute visual features Yung Lean as a bully among dozens of students whose coordinated movements form a large, wave-like sequence. The choreography was created by Damien Jalet, whose work has included projects for film, theatre and contemporary dance. The video received four VMA nominations, including Video of the Year, Best Choreography, Best Direction and Best Long-Form Video.
GENER8ION and Yung Lean’s performance at the awards ceremony brought the track to a wider audience, with the subsequent streaming increase translating into its Hot 100 debut. The chart entry places the collaboration among the week’s new arrivals and gives GENER8ION his first appearance on the ranking while extending Yung Lean’s presence on the U.S. singles chart.
As of October 13, 2026, “Storm II” stands at No. 93 on the Billboard Hot 100 dated October 17 and No. 2 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs. Its rise follows the September 27 VMAs performance and continued streaming growth into the October tracking period.
