The murder trial of Tupac Shakur, which ended with the conviction of Duane “Keffe D” Davis, is being turned into a new true-crime documentary. Sky has commissioned the feature-length project from Passion Pictures, Propagate Content and West Buttermilk, with BAFTA-winning filmmaker Marian Mohamed directing. The documentary is scheduled to premiere on Sky in 2027.

The film will follow the landmark Las Vegas trial of Davis, who was found guilty of first-degree murder on Aug. 31, 2026, nearly 30 years after Shakur was fatally shot in Las Vegas. Davis was prosecuted for orchestrating the shooting rather than personally firing the shots. Prosecutors argued that he organized the attack after an earlier confrontation involving Shakur, Marion “Suge” Knight and Davis’ nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson.

According to Sky, the documentary will include access to members of the Shakur family as they experienced the trial and will feature interviews with people close to the rapper. Tupac’s brother Mopreme Shakur and members of the rapper’s inner circle are among those expected to participate in the project.

Davis’ trial began in August and lasted several weeks. Prosecutors presented evidence that included Davis’ previous statements about the shooting, including material from interviews, documentaries and his 2019 memoir, “Compton Street Legend.” His defense argued that Davis had exaggerated his involvement over the years for financial gain and attention.

The jury ultimately deliberated for less than three hours before finding Davis guilty. He was the first person to be charged in connection with Shakur’s 1996 killing. Davis is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 13, 2026, and has indicated that he intends to appeal the conviction.

Shakur was 25 when he was shot on Sept. 7, 1996, while riding in a BMW with Knight after attending a Mike Tyson boxing match in Las Vegas. He died six days later from his injuries. The case remained unsolved for decades before Davis was arrested in 2023.

The documentary will revisit the investigation, the evidence presented at trial and the courtroom proceedings that ultimately produced the first conviction in Shakur’s murder case. Production is being carried out with access to people connected to Shakur and the events surrounding the trial, with the completed film set for release on Sky in 2027.
