Singer Keshia Chanté Addresses Rumors That Drake Is Her Baby’s Dad: ‘We Were Talking About It Yesterday’

Keshia Chanté has directly addressed speculation that Drake is the father of her unborn child, confirming that the Canadian rapper is not her baby’s dad after rumors spread across social media following her pregnancy announcement.

The singer and former 106 & Park host spoke about the speculation during an interview with Canadian news channel CP24 on Wednesday, Oct. 7. Chanté said she and Drake had discussed the rumors after seeing the online reaction to her maternity photos and pregnancy announcement.

“He is not the dad,” Chanté said. “We were talking about it yesterday, like, ‘Why is this happening?’ I don’t know. But no, he’s not the dad.”

The rumors began after Chanté announced on Oct. 6 that she was expecting her first child, a baby boy. In her social media post, she shared black-and-white maternity photographs and expressed excitement about becoming a mother. She also referred to the baby’s father without identifying him, writing that both parents were looking forward to welcoming their son.

Chanté added a playful reference to the child’s future in music, joking that the baby already had a studio lined up and an album expected in summer 2027. The caption, combined with her decision not to name her partner, prompted fans to speculate that Drake could be the father.

The speculation intensified because Chanté and Drake have known each other since their early years in Toronto’s entertainment scene. The two dated when they were younger and remained connected as their careers developed. Drake publicly referred to Chanté as his first girlfriend during his 2022 OVO Fest, introducing her to the audience before she performed.

During the concert, Drake described Chanté as someone he had loved for a long time and personally welcomed her to the stage. Their history has continued to attract attention from fans, particularly whenever either artist shares personal news.

Drake’s representative also denied the paternity rumors earlier in the week. A spokesperson for the rapper told PEOPLE on Oct. 6 that the claim was false. The statement followed the circulation of Chanté’s pregnancy announcement and the growing discussion about the identity of her child’s father.

Although Chanté declined to reveal her partner’s name, she confirmed that he is involved in the music business and is also a public figure. “My son’s father, I love him dearly, he’s in the music industry and he’s also a public figure,” she said during the CP24 interview. She added that she was excited to see their son grow up surrounded by music and creativity.

Chanté, 38, previously hosted BET’s 106 & Park alongside Bow Wow from 2013 to 2014. She began her music career as a teenager in Canada and has released several singles and albums throughout her career. Her pregnancy announcement marks a new chapter in her personal life, with the singer revealing that she is approximately seven months along.

Drake, meanwhile, is already a father to his son Adonis Graham, whom he shares with French artist Sophie Brussaux. He publicly acknowledged his fatherhood in 2018, addressing the experience on his album Scorpion. The rapper’s representative has now confirmed that he is not expecting another child with Chanté.

While Chanté has confirmed that her partner is a public figure in music, she has not disclosed his identity publicly. Her comments have put an end to the speculation linking Drake to the pregnancy, while leaving the identity of the baby’s father undisclosed.
