Shakira returned to Madrid on Friday, Sept. 18, opening a 12-date residency at the temporary Shakira Stadium at Iberdrola Music. The concert marked her first performance in Madrid in eight years and launched the European leg of her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour. Around 50,000 fans attended the opening night.

The performance began at approximately 8:50 p.m., with Shakira opening the set with “La Fuerte,” her collaboration with Bizarrap from Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran. She then moved through songs spanning more than three decades of her career, including “Girl Like Me,” “Las de la Intuición,” “Estoy Aquí,” “Te Felicito,” “TQG,” “Hips Don’t Lie,” “Chantaje,” “Soltera,” “Loca,” “Ojos Así” and “Waka Waka.”

One of the notable additions to the Madrid set was “Te Dejo Madrid,” which Shakira performed with a harmonica. Before singing the song, she recalled arriving in Madrid at 19 and told the audience a story about a Madrileño who had captured her attention before eventually breaking her heart.

The singer also performed “Acróstico,” the song she wrote for her sons Milan and Sasha. The performance was part of a show that moved between newer material and songs from earlier stages of her career, including “Inevitable,” “Antología” and “Pies Descalzos.”

“Dai Dai,” Shakira’s 2026 FIFA World Cup song, was another part of the Madrid celebration. During the performance, she addressed the crowd and shouted, “Spain, World Champion!” as the audience joined in the celebration.

The concert also featured “Soltera,” with Shakira speaking to the Madrid audience about the themes behind some of her recent music. She discussed independence and moving forward after difficult experiences before continuing with the song.

The residency is taking place alongside Macondo Park, a temporary cultural and entertainment complex built around Shakira’s Madrid shows. The 220,000-square-meter site includes food and cultural spaces, an immersive museum, fashion exhibits, children’s activities and additional performances. The project was inspired in part by the fictional town of Macondo from Gabriel García Márquez’s One Hundred Years of Solitude.

The temporary stadium can accommodate roughly 55,000 people per night, with the 12 concerts scheduled between Sept. 18 and Oct. 11. Organizers expect the Madrid residency to draw hundreds of thousands of spectators over the run, including fans traveling from other parts of Europe and Latin America.

Opening-night reports said there were no surprise musical guests during the first concert, leaving the remaining 11 performances open for further additions or changes to the show. Shakira’s Madrid residency is scheduled to continue through Oct. 11.
