Green Day Teases Trailer for Coming-of-Age Road Trip Comedy ‘New Years Rev’: Watch

Green Day has unveiled the teaser trailer for New Years Rev, a spirited coming-of-age road trip comedy loosely inspired by the band’s grueling early days on tour. Directed and written by Lee Kirk, the film premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 12 and features a cast led by Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust as the hopeful young band, “the Analog Dogs”.
The trailer centers on the trio mistakenly believing they’ve landed the opportunity of a lifetime—opening for Green Day at a New Year’s Eve concert. Their excitement is tempered by the realization that it’s all an elaborate prank, triggering a wild journey from Kansas to California . The footage opens with a hazy living-room scene, where one member muses, “We’re never gonna forget the day we almost opened up for Green Day,” only for his friend to quip mid-exhale, “Man, we’re not almost opening… We’re taking Wayne’s car” .
The ensemble cast also includes fan-favorites like Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, along with appearances by Fred Armisen, McKenna Grace, Bobby Lee, Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, Kenny Ruffalo, and Sean Gunn . Green Day’s frontman, Billie Joe Armstrong, along with his bandmates Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool, serve as co-producers .
Armstrong reflects on the film’s spirit with a nod to the band’s early “van days”:
“Van days rule. You will drive all night on no sleep then play a show for 10 kids in a basement of a friend of a friend’s house 50 miles east of anywhere you’ve ever heard of… It’s electric. Let the music and mischief ensue.”
The band’s social media announcement emphasizes that New Years Rev is “packed with all of your favorite Green Day songs, loaded with mischief, and lots of familiar faces,” branding it a loving homage to road trip films, ’90s nostalgia, and the ups-and-downs of chasing dreams .
The TIFF premiere represents just the beginning, with the band hinting at broader release plans beyond the festival stage
