PinkPantheress Drops the Auto-Tune for Stripped Down ‘Tiny Desk’ Concert Debut: Watch

PinkPantheress performed her first Tiny Desk Concert on September 5, appearing without the Auto‑Tune that defines much of her recorded work. She described the experience as “really scary,” saying she nearly passed on the opportunity when told she couldn’t use any tuning—but ultimately decided to go through with it .
The performance featured an eight-track set pulled from her discography, including songs like “Attracted to You,” “Pain,” “Illegal,” “Girl Like Me,” “Break It Off,” “The Aisle,” “Passion,” and “Tonight”. Highlights included a hushed rendition of “Attracted to You” accompanied by harmonica, a jazz‑inflected “Illegal,” and a poignant version of “Pain” over warm keys.
PinkPantheress was supported by a full live band: keyboardist and music director Lisa Remar, DJ Joe Lesher‑Liao, guitarist and vocalist Sofie D’Angelo, drummer Jaleacia Harris, bassist Rani Adi, and multi‑instrumentalist/background vocalist Tina Chau Le . She also infused the set with playful texture—switching between harmonica, cowbell, chimes, and egg shakers with a dry, dead‑pan humor .
Performing in her signature tartan ensemble, complete with a teapot and her ever-present purse, PinkPantheress shifted her sound from electronic to soft, jazzy arrangements that maintained her glossy vocals and intimate presence .
The stripped‑back performance offers a fresh perspective on her work and anticipates her upcoming “An Evening With PinkPantheress” tour, underscoring how well her music translates to intimate, live settings .
