Arriving at the studio, J. Cole was surprised to find Beyoncé present alongside Jay-Z and Young Guru. After an extensive listening session where Jay-Z played numerous tracks, they proceeded to work on “A Star Is Born.” J. Cole penned his verse in approximately 45 minutes, aiming to authentically represent his origins from Fayetteville, North Carolina. He recalled the moment he delivered his verse, noting that Jay-Z and Young Guru’s reactions indicated their approval. ​
