Dominic “Mick” Mazzone, a revered figure in Australia’s music industry, has passed away following a period of illness. His death has left a profound impact on the Australian music community, with tributes pouring in from colleagues, artists, and industry peers.
A Storied Career in Music Management
Mazzone’s journey in the music industry began in Adelaide, where he played in and provided sound for local bands. In 1982, he relocated to Sydney, establishing Mighty Management and M Records. His expertise as a technical director, producer, and sound engineer led him to work with renowned artists such as Bon Jovi, Billy Joel, Sting, and R.E.M. He also managed the Hoodoo Gurus, a role he took on in February 2024.
Beyond his work with artists, Mazzone was instrumental in shaping the Australian music landscape. He co-founded the Australian branch of the Music Managers Forum and was a founding trustee of the Golden Stave Foundation, a charity supporting music industry professionals. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in 2019.
