Dolly Parton Says She Won’t Attend Grand Ole Opry 80th Birthday Celebration in Video Message: ‘Sending You All My Love’

Country music legend Dolly Parton has announced that she will not be attending her 80th birthday celebration at the Grand Ole Opry, scheduled for January 17, amid her ongoing health challenges. In a video message shared on the Opry’s Instagram page, Parton thanked fans and the Opry community for honoring her milestone and said she wished she could be present, but that she’ll be “sending you all my love” from afar.

Parton, who will officially turn 80 on January 19, expressed gratitude for the celebration and recalled that some of her favorite memories happened on the Opry stage. Her message made clear that although she won’t attend in person, she appreciates the tribute and well wishes from fans and fellow artists.

The birthday event, titled “Opry Goes Dolly,” will feature performances by major country artists including Lainey Wilson, Vince Gill, Rhonda Vincent, and Trannie Anderson, among others. The Opry’s celebration has become an annual tradition honoring Parton’s legacy, even when the singer has not been in attendance in previous years.

Parton’s absence comes after a period of postponed engagements and medical procedures, including a delayed Las Vegas residency and other appearances earlier in 2025. Her message and appearances on social media in recent months have aimed to reassure fans that she is doing well, despite the cancellations and health discussions circulating online.

The celebration at the Grand Ole Opry will proceed with musical tributes, themed activities, and recognition of Parton’s impact on country music and the venue’s history, even as she marks her milestone birthday from a distance.
