Kiey Takes Flight with New Single “white boy i sat next to on the plane”
After a successful run from 2022-2023 which saw the release of 4 music videos for the sophomore album “Sunday Sanctuary” and a Vietnamese single titled “Mê Cung”, Kiey is readying his third album with the lead single “white boy i sat next to on the plane” out on the 19th of January, 2024.
Based on his favorite inspirations such as Troye Sivan, Lana Del Rey, Britney Spears, Utada Hikaru, Bjork, etc, Kiey continues to explore and develop his musical style. His debut album in 2019 “Night To Myself” is a love letter to the night and its dark secrets. In contrast, his sophomore album “Sunday Sanctuary” is a bright, cinematic, uplifting electro-pop record using the catchiest chord progressions. For this third upcoming album, Kiey experiments with a more simple, instrumental indie sound consisting of laidback drums, pianos, and strings using loops and samples. The song “white boy I sat next to on the plane” is a taste of what’s to come.
The single is a hypnotic, bittersweet, minimalistic pop record borne out of Kiey’s own experience on a plane where he was obsessing over a beautiful guy sitting across the aisle. Kiey imagined an alternate universe where he had introduced himself to this person and would have started a beautiful relationship. However, the reality was that he was too shy to approach the guy, and thus the fantasy can only exist within the poetry of the son.
